Ok, well I got the mandrake 7.2 disto and installed it and everything. Installing was going great. Then, it asked me for my root password. I thought to myself, no problem. So then I went to type, and nothing showed up. So I was like, OK, this screwed up. I will get a USB/PS2 adaptor tomorrow. So I did this again, and this time, my whole 'puter didn't recognize my keyboard. So either my keyboard is a POS or this adaptor is a POS. But anyways, I thought Mandrake had full support for USB mice and keyboard? And BTW, my keyboard is some POS compaq :/. Oh yeah, if I get my keyboard working(it works in USB port for windows ME. YUCK) and I go to reinstall Mandrake, when it asks where to install would it be safe to go to diskdrake, then reformat my mandrake partition to start fresh? Cuz I have already reinstalled twice, but to no avail with my keyboard. Thanks alot

You might want to check in the bios for an option to have BIOS control the usb keyboard. usually listed as:
USB Keyboard Control: BIOS/OS
Hope this helps...

Mandrake 7.2 should detect it upon bootup an enable it, it's not like windows where reinstalling it might make it work all of a sudden =)
You can try updating the bios on your motherboard and checking your bios settings as was already suggested.

does a USB keyboard work in the BIOS, it would seem to me that a keyboard is a pretty fundmental thing that should be controlled by the bios.

And here is another interesting thing, I just booted up into mandrake and i can type now. But i can't log in. So it recognizes my keyboard in mandrake but not the installer?
EDIT:When i say I can't log in, its because I couldn't create an account when i installed, because I had no keyboard.

If you can login as root you can create a user. adduser is the command i think.

Here is what I did. Click on NO PASSWORD for Root while you are installing. Let the OS finish installing. As soon as you login the first time, it should recognize the keyboard. IMMMEDIATELY change your root password and then add your users account.
