What do I do if I want to do a shortcut key to insert a character in Linux. In windows I used to load up the handy charcater map and it would give me an ALT + XXXX (which I think was the ASCII code but i'm not sure). How do I do this sort of stuff in linux. OO gives me a hexidecimal number in the format 0xXXXX. Most importantly, I want to be able to use this in OO so if there is a shortcut key system that only applies to OO that's fine too I guess.

Doesn't say much about it in the help.

Thanks.

I don't know the alt+ shortcuts for Linux unfortunately but for Open Office you can just clcik on Insert and then Special Character on the drop-down menu. That will give you the character map.

Heh... that's exactly what I am trying to avoid.
