Hi,

I did the above very easily under KDE following instructions from a NHF found here... but i just cant do the same under GNOME.

All i could do is make an icon for "mounting" my winHD , then i have to click on the "Home" directory icon , go to mnt, and click on "windows".

How can i make an icon that automatically mounts my winHD, and displays its contents?

Also, how important is to "unmount" the stuff i mount? can i just leave 'em mounted til i log off?

Thanks! :D

Despite the # of postings listed for me, I'm no expert.

Being able to unmount a mounted drive is probably more important for things like floppy drives and cd's, which you are likely to change during the course of a session. [edit/add] So far as a hard drive goes, that would need to be mounted once per session.

So far as how to create a link to under gnome I'm afraid I can't help you. I'm using windowmaker and I've got a small docked applet that allows me to mount drives as needed. I'll let you know which applet it is when next I boot up the laptop.

Right-click on the desktop, and go to "New" then to "Launcher." Make sure the type is set to "directory", and under the "command" section type "/mnt/windows". If that doesn't work, try making the "command" section "/dev/hda2", substituting 2 for whatever partition your windows is on. that's really all I can think of. Let me know if either of them work!

Thanks for the input received.. but i still cant make a shortcut that opens the file manager to browse my win hd when i click on it.. i did what you told me, and it still only mounts the drive, but i have to click on my "Home" dir icon, and from there get to my /mnt/windows ...

Is this possible to do at all?

thanks!
