Help with laptop install

I am trying to install mandrake 9.0 on my dell 4100 inspirion laptop....i managed to get a dual boot with win2k but couldn't get x to run. I have looked at the newbie help files and cannot get x configured. I no longer have the dual boot, it is just mandrake now...i do have an nvidia card but i download the latest drivers and still couldn't get it working. any help would be appreciated...
