Hi,

I just installed Mandrake 7.2 and have it up and running, but have had problems with the mouse.

First, during the install it did not recognize the ps/2 port which the mouse is installed on so the mouse cursor just sat in the middle of the screen until I got to the "configure mouse" section of the install -- then even when selecting "ps/2 --> logitech mouseman+" nothing, I tried a different mouse and still nothing --

The mouse I was using is a logitech USB optical plugged into the ps/2 port through a converter.

So I then selected USB-->generic wheel and the system sees it just fine. (after unplugging the converter and plugging in the mouse to the usb port) (note after installation was complete and you boot up the system the Kudzu hardware detection now finds the ps/2 port and asks to configure it)

The real problem right now is running the X windowing system. The mouse cursor appears as a 1" square white block -- any thoughts on why it's not finding the mouse cursor?

It sounds like something peculiar to your system. I have the exact same mouse and it works fine as either USB or PS/2 (BTW it uses the Intellimouse option as a PS/2). When it is is plugged into the ps/2 port does the led shine? If not the port is not getting power

re-configure your mouse. when you get to the point where you assign a device for the mouse, type in /dev/psaux instead of /dev/mouse
