This error occurs while trying to load Slackware 8.0 on my new system which uses the Highpoint 370 ATA100/RAID controller. While installing I chose the ata100.s kernel and it detected my hard drives fine and install fine but gives me that.

How do I fix this?

That Doesn't help. I have an Epox 8K7A+ w/ Highpoint Controller, not A7V w/ Promise controller. As it happens, before I got this motherboard I DID have an a7v and it worked fine in linux without any of those settings needed.

Thanks for trying though.

UP!

I have found a kernel patch for this ata100 controller at highpoints website. But, how can I use this if I can't boot? Will a bootdisk do the trick?

yeah... that's dumb. unless you can swap in another harddrive and compile in the kernel patch that way it doesn't do you a lot of good.

These highpoint guys should put an already compiled kernel on their website. That way you could save it to a floppy and boot with that.

I may not know the entire story here because I just looked on a couple of websites real quick. But it seems to me that these highpoint guys having been inhaling marijuana smoke.

You should email them with my suggestion. It would only take me 30 mins to do what I've advised.

hehe!

Well, I COULD just install it using the normal ATA controller, and then install the patch and switch the controllers..

but then it wouldn't boot becuase it would be in a location, so I guess I would have to use a bootdisk and go in and switch the lilo.conf.. uhh.. I think that would work.
