I've been trying to install my sound card, but for some reason it's using the same IRQ as my Voodoo3 :(

Is there any work around to make it use another IRQ?

I've tried disabling just about everything in my BIOS but it still uses the same IRQ

I'm running Mandrake 7.2 and using a Monster Sound M80 (or at least trying to)

Thanx

With modern MOBO's, the best way to switch IRQs is to switch physical slots. Typically the AGP slot and first PCI slot have the same IRQ. Also 3 & 4 PCI have the same IRQ. 4 or 5 will share an IRQ with onboard stuff. So plan accordingly. Good Luck and come back if that doesn't work.

BTW this probably should ahve been put in the Hardware section, too much gets put into the general section and then gets ignored.

I did what you said and it got me different IRQ's. Weird thing now is that when I install the drivers i get a message saying that the device is busy. Also, when I run HardDrake it list the Diamond Monster Sound M80 under the VideoCards section.

Well I'm lost and obviously a newbie; hehe

Any more thoughts? Thanx again

Have you disabled PNP in the bios?

I know I have a few times but I'm not too sure if it's still disabled. Guess I'll give it a look

Yep, it was diabled. I actually disabled about everything I could in my BIOS in hopes of something, but it's still saying device is busy when i "insmod".

Might just have to cut my losses and try out another chipset

I think that was a Aureal vortex. I hear those are a real pain.

If you do get a new sound card, I suggest an SB Live.

Yeah SBLive works great for me, but they're a fair chunk of cash for a sound card. Have you done a modprobe? I'm not sure what the device is for a sound card as I've never had problems with mine, but I had similar problems with my ethernet config. The device is eth0, so I did amodprobe eth0
ifconfig eth0 up
and that fixed it fine...if you know what the device is, try that out and let me know how it turns out.

I'll definately check it out. I'm starting to think the $50 is worth getting rid of this headache; hehe

Thanx for all your help
