I am installing Mandrake 6.5. For the life of me I can't get my display settings to work correctly. The resolution is at like 200x420 or something! So it's barely usable. I entered my display as a generic, and filled in my monitors specs manually. I usually can't even get it to work. I have one of those crappy integrated video boards. Intel 810/810e chipset. Can you help me?

You should have posted this under Hardware, but hey, we all make mistakes.

Open a terminal (Dos kinda screen)
Type: Xconfigurator
It will lead you through a little menu kinda thing.. it's quite easy. This should solve your problem.

Kind regards,

Olli ;)

Xconfigurator can't run in X. You need to ctrl alt F1 to the terminal. Then, do a killall X. You can run Xconfigurator safely when X os turned off.

you should be in the text mode strictly - run Xconfigurator - if you are lucky ... you get your vdo card recognised and X should be up and running (Xconfigurator is much self-explanatory )...

if you card is not recognised (god forbid) .... then you should search for its for its driver, try to get a newer mandrake version ... which has better hardware support.

you might want to curse your vdocard if you got a i810 integrated chipset... X support is poor here.( mandrake 7.1+.... somewhat supports it)
