Hi guys!

Just a quick question... i had the idea that a WM is the thing thats in charge of the "look and feel" of the windows under X... and that a DM is a complete desktop solution (utilities, programs, etc)...

But a friend saw on a webpage that they handled WindowMaker, FWM, Enlightenment, KDE, GNOME, and such, all as "WindowManagers"...

Is this an error? or is it just that the line between a WM and a DM is very very thin?

thanks :D

KDE and GNOME are not Window Managers. However, since KDE has its own Window Manager closely associated with it that just about everybody uses (kwm), it's just as well to call it one. GNOME and KDE are often lumped into the "window manager" category, even though they aren't, technically. It doesn't really matter to most end-users, though.
