and no erorr came back
In services it shows webmin as running.
I know i am suppose to access it through the browser. But How? what so i have to type to get it started?

I found a place that said to use
localhost:1000
or localhost:10000
with the port 1000 connection fails
with port 10000 connect just does not happen it hangs
then it said if you have trouble try typing
# /usr/libexec/Webmin/changepass.pl /etc/Webmin root password
into console which i did and it said directory not found.
any ideas?

Tried using
http:127.0.0.1:10000
and got a message saying it is running in SSL mode and to try
url
http://Zane.is-a-geek.com:10000
(name i got fron dynDNS.org as a web oage to try this stuff out)
(also name i gave to my comp when it asked me for a fully qualified domain name)
When i tried that it could not connect.
Do i need to turn off SSL mode

I had a similar problem using the loopback. Try replacing the loopback (127.etc) with your internal ip address (192.etc) with :10000
I don't know why the documents say to use the loopback address, it has never worked on any of our linux boxes.

I will try that next,
In my quest for knowledge i have messed up the computer so i have to reinstall linux. I really only work on it during lunch, which is only an hour. I don't think i will be able to try for a few days. If you keep getting e-mails from this thread i will let you know how it turns out.
thanks for your help

I found the answer to the problem while i was reinstalling.
IF anyone else hass the problem with at least mandrake, the trick is to bang rocks together.
Then try
"HTTPS://localhost:10000"
The S in httpS is needed becuase it uses some kind of security feature.
My be needed in other new versions of linux as well
thanks for the help
Im sure i will need more in the future

I am not sure , but I believe you have to SSL enabled.
here with Mandrake 9.0 and webmin 1.0.x if I use localhost:10000 it brings up a link saying https://localhost.localdomain:10000/
another reason for SSL (secure socket layer) is that many site, esp. Online Banking, uses this for doing business.
