Howdy all!
I just installed mandrake 9 a couple nights ago on my IBM thinkpad T20. It has a removable CD-ROM drive that can be swapped with a disk drive, but I haven't taken it out since I installed linux.

I'm having a bit of an odd problem with the cd-rom. When I first boot-up into mandrake everything seems to be working fine. I can open the cd-rom folder from the desktop, and play music in xmms from it (mp3s mostly, but other stuff works) Then, if I try to access the cd-rom a 2nd time, it will hang up. Like when I try to add another track to XMMS, it will hang when trying to open the /mnt/cdrom directory, and will freeze xmms. I thought it was a localized problem to xmms, so I removed/reinstalled it, and am having the same problem.

So then I decided to leave it be for a while and try something else with the CD-ROM. So, I put the mandrake 9 cd #1 in the drive, and was going to read some of the HTML tutorials that are on it. So I open the cd folder, and all the files are there, but they show up as blank icons (usually nautilus recognizes them) When I click to select (not even to open) it wil select it for a second, and then the icon will disappear. If I try to open it, it gives me an error saying something about not being able to find the file (sorry, I'm at work, and don't have it in front of me right now so I can't tell you the exact text)

So, I opened up a command prompt to try and read the CD from there, to see if it was naultilus. I can get into the directory, but when I feed it the 'ls' command it spits out a list of the files that says something like:
ls: error file not found (or something like that) [name of file]

It will give me the names of all the files in the root cd directory in that format, like it knows they're there but can't read them.

Sorry about not having exact error messages, I know that helps, but that's the most I remember. If you guys need more details let me know, and I can try it tonight or at lunch or something and tell you the exact messages I'm getting. Or if that's enough info, then I'm anxiously awaiting an answer!

btw-I'm fairly new to this, so if it's something complicated, you might have to walk me through it, but I know basic commands.

You might try disabling supermount to see if it fixes the problem. My assumtion is that it is installed by default. Don't remember if any options are required.
