OK so this may be a lame question :P

How do I know what themes I can use for Gnome?

I have RH 7.1 installed and only gnome for a windows manager. I did this because I think I read that KDE support won't be built into RH later on.

So I go to www.themes.org (http://www.themes.org) and see themes for lots of window managers. But I want to make X look sweet - to make my windows using friends jealous and to help me learn some simple things slowly.

So where can I read about X managers and themes in general? Anyone got any good reasons for their preferences? Anyone wanna write an NHF about Window managers?

Thanks

I'm just guessing here, but system wide themes are probably installed to /usr/share/gnome/themes
or something similar to that. Once you have the theme in there run the gnome control panel. There is an option in there to select the theme you want to use.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but I run  Window Maker  now.

Yeah I can select the themes in the Gnome control panel but I was more interested in getting some better themes with sounds and such.

I'm more interested in what themes I should get and where to look.

What made you decide on Window maker? I have no idea as to why I would want to install a different window manager.

themes.org is obviously THE place to look for themes. I can't reccomend any themes in particular though.

I use window maker because it's lighter on resources than gnome and it looks pretty cool too.

Can't help much with the sound, but here are some locations for background images that are really slick:

http://www.digitalblasphemy.com

Follow the links at these locations for more images.

You can use the gtk+, the sawfish, and the e themes at themes.org. It depends on the window manager you are using.
