Is anyone else here on BT Broadband? Is it possible to use broadband through Linux?

Yes I use it, there are GNU/Linux and *BSD drivers and a howto located here (http://speedtouch.sourceforge.net)

I am on broadband (ADSL). My supplier is Demon, but all the exchange hardware is BT.

Personally, I decided to go down the route (:D) of getting a router, rather than DSL modem.

In linux, all I do (when I installed Gentoo Linux for the first time, anyhow) is dhcpcd eth0, and bingo. I could ping & wget stuff, from just that one command.

HOWEVER, the router did need a little configuration, so it would be a good idea to have a computer with working OS before trying to setup the router :p.

I can highly recommend the D-Link DSL-504, which is also a four port 10/100 switch. Very nice indeed, and I have had no disconnection for a few months... (Excepting where I told it to...)

I'm on claranets but they do the same package offer as BT, which is what I went for as a first timer. My advice? For ease, don't do the same unless you're on MDK9 or a distro that supports the Speedtouch out of the box. It can be a git to set up and you would need to have everything like drivers ready on install because you won't be able to d/load it without another computer to get it. Personal choice in hindsight would be to get the connection and the filters alone and then a modem of your choice which is supported by your distro.
