I apt-get'ed KDE2 and things installed peachily, booted into it, everything worked great... now... I can't logout! Did I miss something that I was supposed to add in the GDM little exec script?! (exec kde2) please help! I can't get out unless I hit ctrl+alt+bksp

Q: How many existentialists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
A: Two. One to screw it in and one to observe how the lightbulb itself symbolizes a single incandescent beacon of subjective reality in a netherworld of endless absurdity reaching out toward a maudlin cosmos of nothingness.

I remember seeing that problem at the KDE website. If I remember correctly there is no known way to fix it. I have noticed on my system if I click on logout (in the little window that opens asking you if you want to logout) with the mouse it hangs, then logs out. If I just hit enter it logs out OK.
Check the KDE website and see if the have a fix for it yet.

what do you mean you can't log out? theres no logout option in kde2?
sometimes (most of the time) when i log out of kde2, it hangs for a long time (like 30 seconds) and then logs out to kdm.
are you using xdm? if you are, get kdm or gdm instead.

No, there is a logout option, and it SEEMS to go through the motions, it just spits me back out to the desktop, and runs as if nothing's wrong.
I checked on KDE's site, and there are numerous bug reports of it, but none of them have been resolved. Which sucsk, because I want to see how good this thing really is.
No, I'm not using XDM, I'm using GDM, and KDM isn't something I'm just willing to hand over to, seeing as it works fine with Enlightenment, gnome, icewm, blackbox and the like.
I guess I'll simply continue to use Enlightenment...

Same with me.
i log out and it goes through the logout process. then i end back up at the kde desktop as if i never logged off at all.
then thirty seconds later... it logs off.
try logging off and then leaving your computer there for a while and see if it logs off after a while. Once i had to wait a whole minute until i was logged off. but most of the time its just 15 seconds.. which is still annoying but acceptable.

funny, I just have to hit the log out twice, and it seems to go.
Sounds like time to start a wish list for KDE 3.0 http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/tongue.gif
