Ok this is confusing me really bad. Trying to get GF's RH6.1 on the net and can't. I have checked and confirmed the following files by comparing them to mine.

/etc/HOSTNAME
/etc/hosts
/etc/resolv.conf
/etc/sysconfig/network

I can ping the localhost and the actual ip of the PC but that is it.

Just tried linuxconf and when we tried to activate a change it gave an error that the device exceeds the 1024 cylinder limit, then the eth0 initalization fails.

We boot off of a floppy I made during installation. It is a 3c509b card and when I do a lsmod I see it. Please help me. Oh yea if I do netstat -rn it is also correct. If you need I can post all the actual info but I sure don't want to type it all out. I have had her go behind me and check for typos as well. I am really stumped on this.

Bad cable or jack on the wall/hub/switch? Don't drive yourself crazy without checking the often overlooked but simple things first.

I hear that! I spent that past two weeks trying to get this girls connection back up on our local intranet - we punched down her lines three times (copper to the hub, fiber optics from hub to hub), replaced cables, tested the jack (all pairs lit up fine), tried it with one of our linux laptops (our reliable port testers), tried her computer on my jack (it worked), couldn't figure it out. It wouldn't work for ****.

Boss comes in smugly and tries a crossover cable, it works. Someone crossed the wires in the port. We all felt stupid as hell. But at least I'm blessed with a competent boss, not some idiot who doesn't understand what I do.

Checked all the cables first thing and rebooted into win98 and it works fine. It sounds like the card is not working properly. I read something about disabling PNP, if I do this what will I have to do to get it to work in Win98 again?

Ok I just rebooted and watched it come up. There were no errors at all but still no net. What is going on with this?
