what is the difference ?
example:
xine-0.4.3-0.SuSEi586.rpm
xine-0.4.3-0.SuSEi686.rpm
what is the difference between 586 & 686 ?
are they for different processors? is the 1 optimized for pentium proc. ?
thanks in advance...

586=Pent 1
686=Pent 2
i would probably guess that each is optomized for the processor. But i would think the 586 would work with either, but the 686 would run faster/better on a Pent2.

386,486,586,686 they are all generations of processors. 586 = pentium class 686=pentium 2 and up.
How this works with your question...the file you need probably would be determined by your actual distro (maybe...) (I am making this up as I go)
