As a raw beginner with Linux, could anyone help with this dilemma please?
When coming to the XF86Setup section of the installation of Caldera OpenLinux 1.3,
I was trying to select the correct video card (S3 Trio 64V+) but it would only beep when S3 Trio 64V+ (generic) was selected from the list. The message at the bottom was:
*** The server required by your card is not installed. Please abort, install the S3 server as /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_S3 and run this program again ***
How do I install the S3 server (does that mean driver)?
When I went out of that section it reverted to a prompt …..@root so I typed XF86Setup and went round in circles again. The VGA16 selection was the only one that wouldn’t beep but the screen was horrible.
When I boot up it comes to the XF86 section again.

Some types of S3 cards are only supported by the XFree86 version 3 servers (not the newer version 4). Check for the old version of XFree86 on the CD or during the install.
