hello, i am a complete newbie to linux, i accquired Mandrake Linux 8.2 and booted from the CD when i chose the graphical interface, my computer froze, when i tried the text version i had a "CRC Error" i could really use some help, i currently use an AMD Athlon 1333Mhz processor and i have 2 HDDs, one is completely empty and i was hoping to put linux on it, the other one has windows 2000 professional on, please any help would be appreciated

CRC error means there's some error on the media (CRC are sort of checks used on media to validate their contents). What's the CRC error for? It probably means your cd is corrupted.. how did you acquire it? Was it downloaded? If it's so, then that's the problem.. it's not so difficult to end with a corrupted cd when you download it. Now if the CRC error is for something else... then it might not be as easy to fix.

CRC errors can also be bad (iffy) memory.
