I am pretty much a newbie so please type slowly.
I just upgraded from RH 6.1 to 7.0 and somehow my swap file switched from hda4 to hda5 and when it is initialized, no longer exists.
How do I adjust this setting so it looks for it on hda5 instead of hda4?
Also has anyone installed the 1.0.5 Aureal drivers in 7.0? Is there some way to get them to work or are there newer ones floating around the net somewhere? (linux.aureal.com is down)
Thanks,
Steve

hda4 is probably a primary partition for logical partitions. The way partitions work in x86 Linux (and in DOS/Windows for that matter) is that you can only have four primary partitions, but you can have unlimited number of logical partitions. The last primary partition (usually hda4) is usually set up to hold any logical partitions you might have. In any case, I wouldn't worry about it.
As far as Aureal goes, they just went bankrupt, so you might have a few troubles, but wait, they were bought out by Creative! Try Creative's website, or try the ALSA drivers ( http://www.alsa-project.com ). There is bound to be someone else that has this sound card and is a little upset that they went out of business and so hacked the card to write their own set of drivers.

I believe there is a sourceforge site for the latest development drivers. These, if i remember correctly, are tweaed drivers of the orinal ones provided by the aureal crew.
just checked, here's the site:

The main problem is that I have no useable swap drive. I could care less where it is as long as it works, but Linux cannot use it because it thinks that it is on 4 when it is on 5....
How can I adjust that?
Thanks,
Steve

Take a look in your /etc/fstab file. There should be an entry in there for swap. Something like this:
/dev/hda4 swap swap defaults 0 0
Change that hda4 to hda5, and you should be good http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
