Dear Newbies,
I'm running Redhat 6.0 on my PC and just discovered that I can't use anymore the boot disk that I created during the installation.
I'm using LILO to boot all time, but I will feel saffer with a boot disk. So I decided to create one the simple way ... This is what I thought.
I found to methods like describe on this site:
1) simple dd command from the kernel (/boot/vmlinuz) to a floppy
2) using the mkbootdisk command.
None of them worked. Method 1) send me a message: invalid compress format. Method 2)
send me a LILO error code xxxx.
Also I found that the premade boot disk that can be accessed from the BootDisk-Howto pages
are not any more available for Redhat.
I spend some time to go through the Howto, but found it far to complicated, as I just want to create a boot disk that will load the root file system from my hard drive.
I found about rdev and used it to set the root device to my root partition /dev/hda6.
Nothing worked till now.
I thought that I may not be the only one who have faced this problem.
Thanks
michel
