I have a dual booting hard drive with RH8.0 and Win98. I upgraded from a AMDK6 500MHZ to AMDXP1900+ and a new motherboard.

I admit RH8.0 is a lot newer then Win98 but I decided to check out how well the 2 of them would handle the upgrade.

RH8.0 booted up and worked.

Win98 could not see my CD, CDRW, AGP video card and onboard audio. I had to do some coaching to get Win98 to see one of my CDs. Once I got that done then I could load my motherboard and ATI Radeon video card drivers. Then all was OK.

That is due to you still using the stock kernel included with Redhat.

If you had compiled the kernel specificially for your previous hardware, then you would have run into problems when replacing those components.

One of these days, I'll play with compiling.

rpmbuild and gui stuff are some other things I want to master.
