I've just downloaded Mandrake 9.0
I downloaded 2 CD's from http://www.linuxcd.org.
Now When I open my Nero and choose Burn Image.
I choose my ISO file and it starts bruning.
It finishes burned succesfully.
Then when I want to see if it burned on the cd.
The cd appears to be empty!!
And I burned it 3 different times!
And i tried booting with cd and that doesn't happen either!
Any help
Thnx

www.linuxiso.org has cd burning instructions for most of the popular apps and also a link to where you can download the md5sum version for Windows.

Thnx for the tip.
DL the mdsum checked my files and there were no errors.
Now I read in another forum that said something that Mandrake 9.0 is a little bit too big for one CD.
I have 80 Min 700 MB cd's.
The ISO i've downloaded neither of them where bigger than 700MB.
I've burned the ISO 4 different times 3 times with NERO and 1 time with Easy CD Creator.
And I've had no Luck at all.
Any help??

sharth

Open Nero.
Close the wizard if it is started automatically.
Go to "File"
then to "Burn Image...".
In the next dialog, click on "Image Files (*.nrg)" and select "All files
(*.*)".
Choose the .iso file and accept.
In the following dialog make sure:
- Type of Image is: Data Mode 1
- Block size: 2048
- Image header: 0
- Image trailer: 0
- All the checkboxes are unactive.
Click "OK".
In the next dialog check that the "write" and "finalize" option are active.
Click on "Write".
Next time you ask a question please read some tuts so you don't have to ask all these n00b questions, these questions are tooooooooo easy to find.

S_Assassin, please READ his posts before making stupid assumptions. Take note of the text I italised. He did chose to burn image.
I'm with Sharth, isn't it possible that the guy accidently simulated the burn and did no actual burning?

if he did it the way I said, the cd must work. maybe it's your nero program that's the problem.

Does can you burn other data CD's successfully?

And i've burned it the proper way When you say this what does that mean? You burned them as an ISO?
Have you burned iso's onto CD's with the drive before? Did it work?
Have you tried slowing down the drive to 4x or even 2x on the burn?

I just came from Mandrake's own download page. And this is what they say:
Important note: new ISO images need at least 700MB CD-R.

Yes i've burned other Data Cd's already succesfully.
I've dowloaded, burned and installed SuSE with no problem.
And i've burned them the proper way.
Burn image,I use Nero.
My cd's are 700 MB
But i'll try making the speed 2X instead of 4X.
And i'll try that.
But any other suggestion or help would be nice.

I've also had trouble burning the Mandrake ISO with Nero. Mine burned okay but ran out of space at the end using a 700mb blank. I used to use EZ and after I learned to change the default setting for an ISO image I had no problems. I could even doubleclick on the downloaded file in my downloads folder and it would go directly to EZ with all settings correct.
I'm new to Nero but have burned multisession discs without problems. I thought I might have caused a problem by choosing the 'finalize' option.

As you may have seen in your other thread, I've also had problems, using a 700mb cd-r with Nero.
I doubt the slower speed will help. I've read in the forums that the faster burners have fewer problems when used at their faster speeds, assuming of course that you're using blanks that are capable of the faster speeds.

Mandrake 9.0 disc 2, which I haven't tried to burn yet, is 699mb. Just as a hard drive loses some of its capacity to formatting, is this the source of our difficulties? Are some blanks not quite as large as others, so that a file that needs every last mb can run into problems with some blanks?

I've just burned Mandrake 9.0 disc 2 using Nero and a 700mb disc. Nero reports: Track following error
Invalid writestate
Could not perform EndTrack
Both this disc and my burn of disc 1 seem to show up correctly in Win 98SE, properties show as 694 and 699mb, which is correct, and all the files look okay.
Of course installing from them is another matter.
I did note that my blank 700mb cdrs do not have an even colour. There is a crescent shaped portion of a different hue at the outside edge on one side. I wonder if these cdrs are either defective or have been affected by sitting around for a couple of years, maybe by heat or sun where they were sitting.

You are assuming Condor182 has not been burning the iso images correctly? Maybe so, maybe not.

Thnx for all the tips guys.
Well looks like i'm not the only one having problems with the ISO.
And about wether ur CD's are old,I don't think that's the problem because I just bought my CD's and we have the same problem.
So I guess it's not the old cd.
Is it not possible to install it from my HD??
Thnx

I think I found a solution for you all.
Try to use Fireburner :
windows: http://www.fireburner.com/fb217we.exe
linux: http://www.fireburner.com/fb216le.sfx
Install the program
select File > load Tracks
browse for your psyche-i386-disc1,2,3 and press open
press ok
select create Cd > burn
IMPORTANT:
Make sure you donīt run anything else but fireburner because itīs very sensitive for cpu usage.
If the write cache reaches zero the cd failed to burn.
Hope I helped a few of you m8īs out

Hey I downloaded the fireburner program.
Installed it and ran it on my pc.
What is it suppose to do?
Cause I load tracks, choose my ISO.
Choose Burn and then it doesn't actually burn but tests it.
Is it suppose to do this?

An update:
I took my Mandrake cd that Nero had reported "failure" and stuck it in and rebooted to see if it would install. It booted correctly, but after doing some checks, it failed, not due to the disc but to my hardware. I didn't want to actually install on this machine, just test the disc. But this hardware is really standard: Duron 1200 in an MSI K7T Pro ver. 1, 512mb PC 133, LG 8x CDRW, Maxtor 30G 5400rpm, Intel i740 AGP, Motorola winmodem (I know, but it shouldn't queer the install), and a LAN and non-bootable SCSI card, I think, neither of the last two being used.
I've tried to install Mandrake 8.2 to a Pentium Pro 200 and it failed repeatedly. Have installed Redhat 7 to a PII, and Caldera to a P150, TurboLinux to a P100. Never actually got a Mandrake to install. My recent experiences favour RedHat just because of that. Currently downloading RedHat 8.0 on a dialup.

Red Hat said : Mediachecker = FAIL
Mandrake said : DOESN'T even burn and boot propery!!

Here's the respnse:
Sorry to say that we no longer ship outside the United States and Canada.
We have encountered much red tape due to export restrictions on software products. We also have been subject to credit card fraud which runs rampant on the internet. We regret the inconvenience this may cause our honest customers, but we basically have no recourse in this situation. It is shameful that a few "bad apples" in the Linux barrel have ruined things for the rest.
Sorry:(
