I am attempting to install Mandrake 8.2 on my old computer [see below] and all goes well through the step to "Define and format partitions". Then an error message says "depslist.ordered mismatch against hd list files", I have no idea what this means but I click the OK button and proceed. But this puts me into an "endless loop" going back to formatting partitions.

Finally I break out and get to "select packages to install". The next screen is a "Package Group Selection" which is 90% BLANK !!
There are a couple of unlabeled "radio button" and a third button at the bottom labeled "individual package selection".

After selecting all different combinations of these buttons and clicking the OK button, the error message is "base system package not selected" This OK button sends me all the way back to "Define and format partitions" !!!

There seems to be no way to proceed any further and a reboot is needed to get out of the installation setup. I am starting to think I might have a "bad" CD. Any other advice/suggestions ???

Yes, it does sound like a bad CD, but also, your system doesn't meet Mandrake suggested minimum of 128 meg of ram. With a 166, it is going to be verrryyy slow, too.

carlywarly,

Thanks for response, I bought the 8.2 ver. in Staples a couple of months ago [$29.95] and never was able to make a successful inst on my new computer.

So I bought the 9.0 ver. on the 'net for $4.95 and it installed in a "breeze" [couple small items need some cleanup]. I was trying to make use of 8.2 ver. on old machine [I hoped to make all my mistakes on this one] but I don't "really" need it.

I've seen previous threads with similar errors messages such as "depslist.ordered mismatch against hd list files" and I do believe as carlywarly suggested, you have a bad cd.

mdwatts,

Thanks for response, I decided to put Red Hat 6.2 back on old machine [it's loading as I type] and I noticed that since Mandrake 8.2 set up partitions, it is loading TWICE as fast as it ever did before.

I also suspect that "burning" a copy of a Linux CD on a Windows based machine will not make a "successful" copy. The Windows version of Roxio software has trouble "reading" a Linux CD.

I could be wrong but I don't think there' such thing as a "Linux CD" Don't all cd's use the isso9660 (sp?) format?

That would certainly be correct.

Actually that's not correct as they use "iso 9660" and not "isso 9660".:D

(I can't help myself):p

You guys are correct,

Regardless of it's designation, I do have a successful Linux CD I "burned" on a Windows machine. My original statement was incorrect.
