I don't think this has been covered before, if so I apologize.

I finally got Xine installed and playing all my avi files. However, the video settings (brightness, contrast, etc.) don't effect the video when I adjust them.

Due to the fact that my monitor is old, dark, and crummy, this is important to me, as most of my video files appear extremely dark and in many cases unwatchable.

I'm using the XV driver. is there another driver I could obtain that would work? I'm using an ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon if it matters.

My searches on the internet haven't resulted in anything productive, so I thought I'd try here.

Distro is Redhat 8.0.

thanks for any help.

You've tried all the adjustments in the Xine configuration menus and whatever suggestions that have at Xine's site in the faq's, readme etc.?

Any controls on the monitor you can adjust that may help?

try looking up an application called xvattr. you should be able to find it through freshmeat.net or there may be a link right on the xine homepage to it.

I haven't been able to find any mention of this at xine's website. I could always look harder though.

My monitor is maxed out on brightness settings (I've been playing with it, trying to get it right for over a year.)

I went ahead and got that xvattr you mentioned. It did the same thing that Xine's brightness/saturation sliders did. I could change them and view their values, but no matter how high or low I set them to, the video saw no results.

I've tested and played with all the settings while trying to view mpg, wmv, and avi files. I've tried restarting xine after changing settings each time (and they take effect on the sliders in the gui) but they just won't affect the video.

Oh well. perhaps I'm doing something wrong. I'll keep searching.

thanks for your replies.
