I followed these directions, (http://www.icculus.org/lgfaq/loki/q3faq.html#32) for playing quake3 with a quake3 windows cd, but instead of installing it to /usr/local/games/quake3, i did /home/blah/quake3... when I type quake3 at the prompt i just get, "bash: /usr//bin/quake3: Permission denied"! help! :((( im dying to frag

Please excuse my punctuation/capitalization, this is a copy/paste from irc.

Im no expert but did you try from a terminal window:

./quake3

see thats why this isnt working, put the files in /home/blah/quake3/ because that's where i want my games... and ut2k3, and tribes2 are already there so it would be uncool to put quake3 somewhere else :D i used the directory i choose in all the directions that site has and it just gives me that permission error! :/

But you did try launching the bin from /home/blah/quake3?

same permission error... here's another wierd thing. i think i didnt install the patch right.@!!

Look at this:

[blah@localhost baseq3]$ linuxq3apoint-1.32.x86.run
bash: ./linuxq3apoint-1.32.x86.run: Permission denied

then i log into su -

[root@localhost baseq3]# linuxq3apoint-1.32.x86.run
-bash: linuxq3apoint-1.32.x86.run: command not found

AND THE FILE IS IN THAT DIRECTORY... tell me that **** don't make sense :/

Wasnt the point release a shell script? Im looking for mine so i cant confirm.

Im almost positive its a sh script. Go to the directory that has the point release ( ithink you dont want that file in the place you will be installing it to, so you may have to move it) commands
sh linuxq3apoint-1.32.x86.run

It should start an installer type program. let me know.

DAMN! I love these forums! I asked this in irc and got about 0.0005seconds of attention from one person then was ignored.

The problem was that I didn't install the patch, and I didn't know I had to type "sh" infront of the filename haha man you learn something everyday...
