Don't know what made me go to www.kernel.org (http://www.kernel.org) today but I just did and lo-and-behold a new kernel released just hours ago. Go get you some now! Hey if you never tried patch might I suggest you try it. You'll be supprised how easy it is. I been patching since 2.4.0.

Hey got the patch downloaded. I'm gonna take a few minuites to patch / compile. Be back after I boot to 2.4.7!

OK I'm back:
$ uname -r
2.4.7

Ran into problems with my Winmodem. I have to rebuild the ltmodem drivers with each kernel upgrade. This time for some reason I had to do it twice? Don't know why but the first time didn't work and I ran around in circles for awhile trying to figure out why.

Hey this kernel fixed an anoying error message I had about a kernel.printk function I kept getting. It had something to do with my sound card but it's gone now whoopeee!.

I'm sure they have a patch that would let you easily upgrade to 2.4.7.

I think his complaint was more along the lines of "damn, just updated, gotta do it again. it never ends :("

It ends when you figure you don't need anything from a new kernel except the fact you've got the latest. ;)

Lucky everyone. I'm still trying to get 2.4.6 to boot after the compile. Just get a blank screen even after a clean compile. I'll get it working eventually.

I downloaded 2.4.6 yesterday trying to get read/write support working on my sony camera via usb, just read support was working so far. The official 2.4.6 kernel didn't work, gave me nasty errors when I tried to write to the media and reverted to read only, so I tried mandrakes 2.4.6mdk5 out of cooker and it works perfectly. So I don't really need to get 2.4.7 but now I'm wondering if it will work also... I was getting a blazing 550Kbytes/sec off kernel.org when I grabbed 2.4.6, that's kernel source in under 60 seconds :-)

Cool! I just updated my debian system to 2.4.7 (I just installed debian and went to upgrade the kernel and was surprised to find 2.4.7 listed ;) )

Everything works so far, very speedy (at least for me)

On a different note, wow...KDE sure has changed since the last time I used it. I realy like what they've done with it.

Hehe, my download started at around 1.05 MB/s and then droped back down to around 330 or so. Still fast for my cable modem ;)

/me wipes drool from chin.

If I get a steady 4kbps it's a good download. Now you know why I patch!

Doesn't it make me l33t to have the new kernel? Besides the colors are so much brighter with 2.4.7 and the sound is clearer too not to mention how much better my mouse behaves. :D

Yea, I'm lucky. I live out in a rural area that has cable modem access through Road Runner. So basicly, I have the whole cable node to myself ;)
