Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Madrake 9.0 - software manager not detecting 3rd cd

I've just upgraded from Mandrake 8.2 to Mandrake 9. With 8.2 I just bought the two install disks, but realising I needed extra apps I bought the third install disk as well for v9.0. However I cannot get the software manager to recognise the third disk. I can load individual rpms from it, but it doesn't do the depends when you load that way.
Am I missing something obvious?

well linux is not windows. There is no autorun, and if u want to see
what the cd has in detail i think u have to go through the installation
again. Or search the net for every single file that is...

That is NOT what he is asking.
When you open the Software Manager do you choose add new source? As long as it reads the cd you can give it any name you want. Mine list as Mandrake download cd.....cd 1
I just call them cd1 cd2 and cd3. As long as it can read the cd and get the packages.gz file it will work.

I don't think it is either.

Hmmm,
"ls -laR"
or
"ls -laR > afilename"
would list every file and directory on the CD.

cage47 is Right!
I installed ML 9.0 with just the 2 cd's, then when I downloaded
the 3rd cd - I had to add it.
Its a bit tricky, don't use copy - but hand type all the info in.
Then it will add it and also if you want to install an rpm, it will tell you dependencies.

Erm, silly question, add it where?

I'm a fellow newbie but I imagine you can add it by going to the mandrake control panel > software > software sources > Add.
I've not used it myself but I saw it when fiddling the other day.

Ah, I've tried that , but it says it cannot recognise the disk. I can read the disks using ls -al, and I can load from them, I just can't seem to get the system to recognise them.

I get to frame 31 (selecting removable media) then it keeps asking me to put the disk in the CDROM drive. When I do it doesn't recognise it (any disk).

If you are choosing "Removable Device" and ignoring the steps that deal with Security Updates VIA FTP (for now) and are still not able to have the Software Manager recognize your other CD you may want to check Google or the newsgroups for possible problems with the Software Manager in 9.0
Or wait for a reply for someone with 9.0 who can tell you they have sucessfully added a CD source.
You should be able to add programs from the CD in any case. They just won't be easily accessed and listed in the Software Manager. Use one of the other package managers or command line if you need to add something, until you get the Software Manager working.
When I had Mandrake 8.0 there was a problem with being able to access the Mandrake CDs if the FTP server listed as an update source caused errors. It was necessary to delete the update source and then the CDs could be accessed again. This happened a couple times. Maybe?

I hear ya jon!
I installed Mandrake 9 last night. I've got the same problem. When I went in to add a removable drive, it wanted the path to the rpms and some other thing. I think it might be a pathname to the list of rpms on the disk. (In the disk1 entry it had a .cz extension). Maybe I've got to find this file and add it. I'm sure it will be great once I get it working... Might even replace WIndows one day.

Error scenario: When using urpmi or rpmdrake, there is an error about package not found before accessing the CD-ROM.
Why: The installer misconfigured the medium description of Contribution packages.
Solution: Insert the Installation CD (CD-ROM #1) and issue the command "urpmi.update cdrom8" as root.
