I am trying to install RedHate 7.1 on a Pentium P54C. My bios won't boot from CD so i made multiple boot floppies from the CD. I make it to a welcom text screen that asks for types of install expert, text, ect... and a boot:_ prompt. opon selection it states "Loading initrd.img..." My problem is that after a short lag it spits out that the boot has failed: please change disks and press a key. I have tried diff floppies to eliminate the possibilities damaged cluster. Also, when I typed vmlinuz it spit out a bunch of data then locked up. I apprieciate any response. Thanks

P.S I also tried: linux hdc=cdrom with no luck

Does it say why the boot failed? It would be helpful if you could post at least some of the error messages.

Okay. If the CD is still set up in the same way as my 6.0 CD, in the dosutils directory there should be a program called loadlin. Get a Windows boot disk and boot from that, enabling CD-ROM support. Then run:

d:\loadlin d:\images\boot.img rw root=/dev/ram load_ramdisk=1

where d: is the letter of your CD-ROM drive.

If this doesn't work, I'm afraid I'm at the end of my ideas. <g>
