I'm currently running Mandrake 8.2 & KDE, and I have problems with e-mail programs:

K-mail works, but my account settings are not saved when I log out. (pop-server, username & all that)

Sylpheed works fine, faster than K-mail but:
1) It loads all messages every time I choose "get mail", not only the unread. I can then choose "delete duplicated message" and about 2/3 of the dupl. messages are deleted...
The fact that this function exists tells me this is a common problem - as I have a modem connection this is not fun.
2) I choose to sort by date, newest on top. This setting is not kept when I log out - very irritating!

If these are common problems maybe I should try something else - suggestions?
On the other hand, these two were ranked as the two top products by LinuxFormat.

Are you using POP or IMAP? Do you leave all of your messages on the server all the time?

In Sylpheed 'Get' means 'Get all the mail from my default account', and 'Get All' means 'Get all the mail from all my accounts.' There should be a setting in the accounts preferences to do with only getting unread mail.

In Sylpheed, do you have 'Remove messages on server when received' enabled in the account preferences under the 'Receive' tab?

Thing is, I don't want to remove messages from the server - I want to be able to read all mails from anywhere. But I want them downloaded to home computer once only.
There is a setting in the account preferences: "Get all mail from host" which is unmarked.
I haven't found any other settings, have read all files in .sylpheed -directory too.
