A while back I discovered that my Debian install has a REALLY nice text editor that they named simply, "editor."
I'd like to see if this is something out there I can download onto my other *nix PCs, but I don't know where to look for it.
You can imagine the mess I come up with if I go to ANY search and search for "editor."
Does anybody know what this thing is, and where I can get it other than on the base Debian install?

I installed Libranet (a Debian based distro) a few weeks ago and it had an barebone editor caled "dedit" for xwindows and was using ee I think for console.
Probably stands for easy editor.
Maybe you can check in the file list of a debian ftp? If it is a console editor, it could be in the base package.

I believe 'editor' is a crafty symlink to *any* of the editors currently installed. For instance, my system only has vim - so 'editor' runs 'vim'. Take a look at where the '/usr/bin/editor' symlink points to. Perhaps 'ae' - I know that's installed with the base system.

Figured it out - it's a sym link to another sym link to ae http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
Went out to freshmeat and it pointed out a link to aee - I downloaded it and it appears to be an updated version of ae - I'm happy http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
