It sounds like you have burnt the image.be as a install cd? Generally during kernel boot if it hangs - its your motherboard. Ive found especially onboard video will cause it to hang - get a mobo with no onboard video if this is what u have. My msi k7t turbo works fine in beos, all i needed to do was get the unified nvidia driver for my video - but even no video driver should boot into mono. So definately sounds like a prob with ur motherboard chipset. Beos is great, if it had the driver support i need i wouldnt even consider Linux! - cant wait for OBOS :P trashthing 11-12-2002, 03:14 PM hi. i have 2 video cards installed. ones a i810 (onboard) and the other is a Geforce 2 MX (not an onboard). i tried installing BeOS w/ the Geforce installed and not installed. what is the problem? would it be better if i had a Geforce 4? i'm getting one. so will it work w/ BeOS? -MinD dp007 11-12-2002, 06:23 PM Nvidia cards work fine in beos (no 3d support) through the unified nvidia driver on www.bebits.com. My beos runs happily on my Athlon 1.0Gig with GF2 mx400 and ac'97 onboard sound. Didnt even need to tell it bout the sound, it jus found it itself. Beos does seem to have i810 support in there. As I said my experience is onboard video causes it to hang, altho it looks like ppl have used onboard i810s as well. Personally, i saw the hang and gave up on my m8s machine :) Try messin about in ur bios i guess, see if anything gets it to work. An Epox 8KHA needs athlon SSE instructions off to boot for example. Check out www.betips.net and see if any of the stuff on motherboards and i810s will work for u :) www.bebits.com may or may not have anything but they are the two best sites for beos. Only other thing i can think of is try a new mobo/machine. Older they are easier it is to get it to work ive found - beos loves p200-300s hehe. linux12414 11-18-2002, 06:06 PM Can anyone supply me with a copy of BeOS? A friend has been searching *forever* for a copy. Email me or PM me. Thanks dp007 11-20-2002, 03:08 AM http://www.bebits.com/app/2680 As they started "focus shifting" to PDAs, Be inc. released version R5 as a free download, a year or so later they got bought out by Palm funnily enough. It installs into a image file in windows but it can be installed as a bootable OS with its own filesystem very easily. Hardware support is automatic - if it has a driver it'll just work. If your hardware doesnt work try looking for a driver at www.bebits.com - if it aint there your out of luck. sacole 11-20-2002, 04:19 AM http://www.beosonline.com/index.php?seite=Download&PHPSESSID=7a7b771ca98a8d44e383119055f3b277 gfunkmonk 12-01-2002, 11:51 PM check out http://www.vasper.net/main.php for BeOS 5 PE Max Edition, a different "Distro" of BeOS if you will. justlinux.com
