Just thought any of you aussies out there would be interested to know that a friend of mine managed to get my swann usb modem to work with Mandrake Linux 9.0 on the IBM thinkpad (which only has 2 usb ports and one PCMCIA slot)

I know modems are a pretty big hassle with linux... my modem was only an el cheapo (AU$99) one so I'm quite pleased it worked otherwise I would have had to fork out twice as much for a PCMCIA one.

Funny thing is I read many a post that said things along the lines of "I'm yet to find a usb modem that works with Linux..." well sorry but I'm using one right now! heh heh

If anyone wants more info let me know.

Cheers.

How did you do it?

As far as I know only CDC ACM usb modems will work, and you need the acm.o module on the system, which I can't find anywhere on my mdk 9

I got my Netcomm USB modem to work in Redhat without downloading drivers!

But it will not work on my Toshiba laptop in Linux or XP?

I think it may be a power issue (ie it draws 400ma)
