What is a good chess program?

I was wanting to find a good chess prog, where you could play against the computer... Any ideas?:)

the gnuchess/xboard combo is pretty good.... especially if you compile in the book. here's a good site on the subject:

Damn, I cant get anything to work nice together... Ive got GnomeChess, but it wont let me play the computer... XBoard wont run with gnuchess or crafty... I must be doing something wrong...:)

I'd play more, but Gnuchess always kicks my arse too bad. Bad for morale.
