Installing boot prog. on hdb

Hi ,

I installed GRUB on hdb1 as some of the docs suggest this instead of overwriting what's on the MBR. I then changed the drive order, to A, D etc. in the hope that GRUB would load from there.

This "worked" to the extent that I got the word "GRUB" on the screen followed by a blinking cursor prompt. However, this is as far as it went - nothing more happened and I could not type anything. I ended up rebooting and restoring the bios settings to A, C, etc

Any ideas what's happening?

not sure with grub, but that is probably the loading screen. try hitting tab and seeing if a list comes up.
