Hi Guys,

I have a functioning RH 6.0 box... I need to wipe it totally clean (like fdisking it in DOS) and install a new version of RH on it. How can I "fdisk" it? Thanks.

Just install your new version of linux overtop of it. If you want to change your partitions around you can do it from the install. You'll be giving to option to format your old partitions if you want to use them over.

I need to make sure that nothing at all is remaining from the old install.

Thanks!

Yeah, that'll do it. Linux doesn't do very well at upgrading in the ms sense of the word. When you install a new version, you can only keep what's on non root partitions.

Didn't Redhat format your exists linux native partition before installing? If it does, which I'm sure it will, then you don't have to worry about cleaning things http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Install on top of your old one. I've done it a million times with Redhat since v. 5.2

I would recommend physically removing the HDD prior to the upgrade...hold it approximately shoulder height from the floor and release.

Repeat as necessary.

This should sufficiently wipe all data from the root partition (and then some).

Actually, upon installation...as stated in earlier posts: You can re-fdisk your system while doing the install and then format the newly created partitions... OR if you have data on other partitions, JUST format over the root and leave the rest alone to preserve it.
