after fixing up the setup I've encountered another prob with giFT. It's simply - I've run the daemon by typing 'giFT -d' , run the 'giFTcurs' (cool gui by the way  ), type from the search and got nothing

Can someone help me with this? I figure it could be the setup....

redhat8.0 (firewalled)
56k dial up
entered mostly defaults for the giFT-setup

I got it working!, it's just my firewall in the way after all. Somehow the firewall setttings of guarddog changed redhat's default settings which pervented me to use giFT.

Ok, now I'm using Debian and am not using guarddog anymore, I use default firewall settings in bastille. Now giFT is not working, I type something in the search (giFTcurs) and it simply presents me with no results.
It doesn't seem to searching anything, what am I doing wrong here??:o

hehe, yeah this thread is kinda old :P, sorry

have you tried going with default settings (except of course the one you must change) even for the the firewall stuff. perhaps your .giFT is outta date with the most recent version you installed try erasing it and starting over.

in other words you can try lotsa things. i would try setting up giFT like would if you had no firewall.

I've set both (firewall & giFT) to it's default settings, yeah you're right there are a number of ways but most of the one's I've tried isn't working :(
oh btw, I'm using the most recent cvs version of giFT and giFTcurs, I did'nt even use the *.deb of giFTcurs and went with the cvs instead.

I absolutely have no knowledge of firewalls and such as of now, anyone got giFT working using Bastille's default firewall rules? :(

I've got the same problem except that I also can't reach 901 (swat) and 631 (cups). This really shouln't be that hard to fix though....
