Er yeah. I just installed Red Hat 7.3, and I wanna know what dir I put the .wsz file so that it comes up in the "skin" browser. I changed the File and App type so that .wsz files open with XMMS, but it doesn't work.

ALSO... recently my desktop icons haven't been popping up. I load X, and it just shows the wallpaper, but everything else works.

Howdy.

There are two places, actually.
1) in your home directory, there'll be a "dot" directory of ".xmms/Skins". Dot directories are usually hidden, so you may have to use the CLI or set your Nautilus/Konqueror to view all files.
2) in the /usr/share/xmms/Skins directory.

Either one should work. NOTE: the first "S" in "Skins" is uppercase!

I had this problem, traced mostly to my Video card (S3-based). After switching cards (GeForce), I haven't had this problem. What seemed to work was to keep restarting until the desktop came up, then immediately exit and select the "Save changes to Desktop" box when logging out. After that, I haven't had a single hiccup. I don't know if it was the GeForce or the setting, but I'm not going back to the S3 to find out.

Hope this helps...

I got the desktop prob fixed, and the skin worked =D

Thx a bunch. I actually have to wait about 5 minutes after GNOME has loaded before ANY apps will work, the desktop icons show up, etc.

That long? What vid card do you have? My old one was a Number9 SR-9 8MB AGP model (S3 Savage based). Once I upgraded to a GeForce 2 MX400 with 64MB, things really started flying. And I haven't got around to trying the nVidia drivers yet! Heck, even the windows side of my box runs faster (still can't surf the Inet and play mp3s as smoothly as on the Linux side, but after all, it's windows...).

Hope this... waitaminute... Glad I helped...

you can also use winamp skins for xmms, just copy them to the xmms skins directory
