Ok... I am a completely new Linux User. Had problems with SuSE 8.0 and complained to someone about it and they sent me 8.1 Professional for free. It loaded perfectly

Now to the DSL portion of the post. Luckily for me SuSE 8.1 came with "Roaring penguin" PPPoE. Now at first I didnt know how to log on as root. I was trying to open my Konsole and login through there, but didnt remember my root password (i know I know should always be root! well I am hardheaded) Anyhow I figured out how to logon to root and ran my PPPoE setup. Basically.. I named the connection, put in the Screenname part of the address I used in windows.

Looked something like this in windows:

Login Name : Harleyisdaman@blahblah.net
Password:*******

So I named a connection... Harley =P
Then under Login I put: Harleyisdaman
And then under my server was @blahblah.net

Logged right in. On it now

Hope this helps someone! <dances cause when they get EQ to work on Linux Windows is Buh-Bye!>

(i know I know should always be root! well I am hardheaded) Well, actually, you probably shouldn't always be root. Browsing the Web, for instance, if done as root, can have serious consequences. Relatively small problems with browsers can turn into major disasters when arbitrary code can be run by the Web pages you visit (and yes, that probably can happen).

IRC clients, as well, should never be run as root. I must confess don't know why, and I don't know how one would carry out an attack on an IRC client run as root, but I know that some sort of attack is possible.
