Ok, im a linux newbie so bare with me. I wanted linux on my machine along with my current win2k. For ceratain RAID driver reasons, i chose redhat 7.3. I moved my windows partition and made a small partition for BootMagic 8(was using this because i kept running into probs on install of redhat and was trying different things) On the succesful install, i had my partitions set up as follows(it sees my raid as sda):
sda1: win2k
sda2: bootmagic
sda3: /
sda4: extended
sda5: /swap
So heres the problem, I cant get Linux to boot. During its install, i tried to make a boot disk when asked, but kept getting a "bad media" error, so i dont have a boot disk. BootMagic boots fine and ive configed it to see the linux partition. (it sees and boots win2k fine). When i tell it to boot linux, it says "Loading 'Linux' "(or close to that), and then freezes. When in win2k i can use partitionmagic and browse the linux partition. everythings there and seems to be fine. Also, during the install of redhat, i did NOT load a bootloader(I know this probably wasnt go, but i was trying different options trying to get it to work). I am going to try booting linux from my install CD when i get home today, but here are my questions:
1) to boot from CD, type "linux root=/dev/sda3" at boot prompt?
2) Assuming Linux is working fine, how do i get bootmagic to load it(i think i need lilo/grub installed to do this)
3) If i do need lilo/grub, how do i get it installed if i cant get to linux(in the boot directory of my / partition, there is a folder called booted with a folder called grub in it, would that help)?
Sorry for the long post, but i wanted to include everything. Thanks in advance for any help.
