Try wine x. It is able to emulate most microsoft games. I haven't tried it but I hear it works. I use a dual boot system so I can play games on microsoft and do everything else with linux.

Which hardware?

Which games?

It's slightly hard to tell you how to get games working when we don't know details... ;)

search for linux and game and you will come up with a decent ammount of hits, The Unreal Tournament port to linux is excellent, and so is the Quake port. I went to microcenter and they have like 5 or 6 big name games on the shelves that are ported to linux. Else try using winex.
