What distributions make your life easier when it comes to X? Nick Wilson 08-09-2001, 12:40 PM Not sure but I know that RH7.1 has a laptop option on install if that helps any? Nick WIlson KarlOldman 08-09-2001, 12:42 PM True, I think it deals with PCMCIA cards and battery support. GonzoJohn 08-09-2001, 12:43 PM When I first installed Linux on my laptop aver 1 year and a half ago, Red Hat 6.2 installed nicely, but also had trouble configuring X. RH 7.1, which I upgraded to recently, installed X like a dream. Mandrake also seems to install well on laptops, but I'm not a fan. mrBen 08-09-2001, 12:43 PM If you're having problems with X then you're going to be relying on text based config, which is often xf86config, which all distros have. However, have you tried looking at the Linux on Laptops (http://www.linux-laptop.net) webpage? I know that for some laptops you can just download the relevant files, including the X config file, which may be nice 'n' easy for you :D HTH FoBoT 08-09-2001, 12:45 PM i put mandrake 8 onto a compaq armada E500 a month ago, it was easy, no problem gnome came right up justlinux.com
