As a newbie should I install mandrake or slackware? I have heard alot of good things about both distors but need help in deciding.

Thank You

There's one HELLUVA difference in the learning curve. If you know nothing about linux and (for now) just want something pretty to learn on and make hardware setup go alot easier, choose Mandrake.

If you would rather dive in head first rather than just get your feet wet, use Slack. Slack is one of the better (arguably the best, Debian could whip slack any day :)) distro's but it's more geared towards hackers that know what they're doing in linux.

I suppose if you have a computer just to fsck around with and dont really have any files that really mean too much, you could try slack. But if you're used to windows and like how windows does stuff, I think I'd go for MDK.

That's just my opinion, you don't need to listen, not many other people do :)

I think you are opening a big can of worms here, but I recently installed Mandrake 8.0, the install was easy and had the system up and running in about an hour. :D
