Hi,

I have a system that shares a common data drive that has paritions mounted in NTFS. I've been trying to figureout how to mount them, so Linux can use the data, but have had very little luck figuring out how to do this. If I can't directly mount them, is this something that I can use Samba for?

TIA for your help...

Make sure you have NTFS support, either as a module or built in to the kernel. You may need to recompile the kernel to get it - but don't jump into recompiling just yet.

The NTFS support in linux (at least with the now-old 2.2 kernel) is basically read-only. The read/write stuff is very unstable (or so the docs for it say).

Anyway, once you got NTFS support

mount -t ntfs /dev/hd?? /place/to/mount

or you can add it to your /etc/fstab file.

So is there any advancement in the 2.4 kernel?

Being an experienced Microsoft guy (head hangs in shame) I am definitely loathe to upgrade until the i's and t's are dotted and crossed.

I have mine mounted in Read-Only with the 2.2.17 kernel that came with Mandrake 7.2. I just followed the NFH and it works without a hitch.
