Hi
Just installed Mandrake on an HP pavillion 8750C a coupla days ago and so far am only having a few problems.

1. Can't get my Modem to shut up. It seems on the 8750 that the soundcard and the modem are almost one in the same. I was able to find and install the HSF modem and the riptide drivers fine, but now whenever I connect to the internet all the static is piped directly over the external speakers.
- Tried adjusting the volume on the KPPP dialog
- Tried Various AT commands but volume got neither hight or lower

2. All other sound applications seem to work fine, like Xmms. Except that no sound comes out when using Xine. When I click the audio tab in the config menu, it says the output device is set to null. When I run xine through the terminal it says that the avalible drivers are oss and null, but when I try oss it craps out. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Most graphical display programs take control of the soundcard when they start-up. This is probably why your hearing the modem. Look in /etc/modules.conf and see if a conflicting sound alias or audio/dsp/midi configuration exists. "ripconfig" can be used to configure the kernel modules. Try "ripconfig --help" first for command discriptions.
