An integrated sound card on the mother board suks! Have you checked to see if there are extra slots to add the new sound card? Well, whenever you remove old hardware and replace with new PNP will auto detect, sometimes software is needed. Now since your sound card is integrated on the MB, sounds like a gateway, I sont think you can! Open the case up and play around! Hope this helps!

Iccy, read your mobo manuel. The sound card on the mobo should have jumpers to disable it. Your going to have to find them. If they are not on mobo, look in CMOS. Either or, I am pretty sure your best luck will be look for the jumper settings. Hope that helps.

Once you have disabled the onboard sound, then put the yamaha in and login as root and at console type "sndconfig" .....run through that and see if that works.
