(I thought only windoze does it)
Tried alt-ctrl-F1-F6, tried Ctrl-Alt-Del - nothing, only the mouse is still moving on the screen (not being able to select or click anything). Caps lock, num lock - not working.
Also tried Xconfigurator - detects everything, starts X without errors.
I am running RedHat 7, Gnome, it happens while I am browsing, or reading PDF files.

You could always do a Ctrl+Alt+Backspace. This will back you out to a login.

I couldn't tell you why yur having the prob though.

The first time I had my keyboard freeze up in KDE, it was amazing how many people told me to use the CTRL + ALT + ?? combo, which very clearly does not work on a 'frozen keyboard'.

ALT + SYSRQ + s, then without releasing ALT + SYSRQ, type u, then b, and it will reboot -- if your distro has the alt-sysrq function enabled. And, it will usually be a clean reboot, though work in progress will usually be lost.

If you want more info, send me a mail, irlandes@attglobal.net, do remind me what you want, since I get a lot of mail on other topics besides linux. This has been posted on LNO before, and a forum search for "sysrq" may give you what I posted, also Craig McP.

Drake 8.0 has a file in a package which is not always loaded, called something like sysrq.txt. It gives details on this.

I am told some distros do not have sysrq built into the kernel.

By the way, I had frozen keyboard a lot in KDE 1, but the only time I've seen it in KDE 2 is using WINE, and in WINE, it does not reboot cleanly. Go figure.
