Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : OS X w/ BSD Darwin??
I was just leafing through apple's development page and I saw that they open sourced Darwin. Does anyone know if the OS X GUI is included w/ the binary release? They hinted towards it, but I was not sure. If it is not, does anyone know if the retail version of OS X will run on Darwin for the x86? That would be sweet if it did. Thanks...

Nope the GUI is not included in darwin...They just open sourced the OS X kernel, probably because they wanted to have controll over the OS X look and feel.
If someone released a real terrible OS with the exact look and feel of OS X, that might reflect negativly on the actual OS X. If the souce for the GUI is closed, its that much harder to come up with somting that looks exactly like OS X (although it can be done...just be ready to hear from apples lawyers :D )
thats sucks! oh well, back to the drawing board. Are there any advantages that Darwin has over other BSD releases? I guess I'll *have* to get that G4 powerbook, darn... :D
thanks again fobot...
