I got it installed and it came up with the basic theme but now I cannot listen to mp3s in xmmx.

Anyone have any idea of what might have happened?

Using my grand mindpowers I can automatically know that you are using red hat 8. do a google search. red hat is stupid and didn't include ability for mp3 playing becuase of fear of legalizatio against them

How is that stupid??? I dont suppose you couldve used your grand powers to tell this guy to go xmms.org and get their mp3 plugin?? nothing like taking a remote possible chance to flame a distro and making the best out of it hey?? by the way I was happy to see debian finally join the 20th century (let alone the 21st) and start using the 2.4 kernel series but what really takes the cake is that nobody gave a damn to review it LOL LOL even distrowatch.com said they could only find a couple of french sites that talked about it. So way to go debian  they're really making an impression.

Have you heard of somebody have a laugh? Also, who wrote the rule saying that if you use one distro, you are not allowed to like or use another? I love and use Debian. I also use RedHat and OpenBSD. I don't particularly like the rpm package system, but I still think RedHat have an excellent distribution. I suggest you remove your head from up your anus, stop trying to start a distro/flame war as they are pointless and chill out a little... :)

I dont remember ever saying anything about rules of using distros but whatever, anyway I use arch redhat and have used freebsd so not sure where your point is here anyway I just get a little tired about people telling newbies to go search and take a cheap shot at another distro. I mean why post at all? what's the point? I never bash distros but since he wanted to Id figure Id play ball.

FYI Debian 3.0 was reviewed in Linux Format (uk mag) last month.

The Debian Stable tree doesn't strive to be up-to-date, it strives to be stable. Which it does better than pretty much anyone.

If you want newer stuff, you use Debian Unstable, and then Debian Testing for bleeding edge.

No other distro works in this way, and yet I think it is a great way to work.

(Which is high praise from a Slack user ;) )

I don't think he was necessarily bashing the distro, but rather the corporation, and the decision that they made in their latest release to not include MP3 support in XMMS. I don't think that he implies that RedHat the distro sux, just that the corporate decision was stupid.

It's redhat 7.3 and it worked fine under KDE. I will give the search a try anyway.

Thanks for the advice.

no, i was just tired and bored and had read the same thing llike 20 times in the last week. got old fast. A search on google or on lno usually works faster than waiting for the response from someone else anyways.

Edit...

And I do think that all fo the distros do have a point, I just bealive that it was a stupid idea not to include the mp3 support. Just don't understand it. Oh well, sorry for the flame, didn't mean it, Just getting tired of the same questions.
