The command you need is gunzip I cant remember the options you need to give it and i cant look because I'm not in linux, but read the gunzip man page.

Its -d, so:
gunzip -d filename.gz

I believe the command for uncompressing .gz files is "gzip" or "gunzip". I'm in Windows now since my XFree 4.0.2 is hosed so I can't test it.
Do a "man gzip" and "man gunzip" and check out the info.
That should get you started!
