ive just installed suse 8.0 and have a problem with playin audio cds, i know its not the way my sound card is configured for two reasons

1) i get sounds when loggin and close/opening apps

2) when i go to browse a cd i get the following error message

Could not mount device.

The reported error was:

/dev/cdrom: Input/output error

mount: you must specify the
file system type

as im a newbie ive had a look around at a few documents but i am gettin no where fast could any1 suggest what may be the problem and how to fix it

thanks

You cannot mount a audio cd since it does not contain a filesystem.

Have you tried one of the cd player apps that are included with your distro?

If KDE, they would be in the multimedia menu.

I don't know if this will be helpful but I had this problem when I first installed SuSE. The problem was caused by my computer having 2 CD devices a recorder and a ROM. I found that the audio apps were looking to play on my CDROM not my recorder. when I configured the individual app to look at my recorder under options/setup and audio device it solved the problem. So I would check the device your apps are trying to use. I apoligize if you already checked this.

Good luck
